Services

Five ways to
begin.

Whether you arrive with a clear brief or only a feeling, we begin in the same place — a conversation without obligation.

I.

Bespoke Mattress

8 – 12 weeks

A mattress begun from a single conversation and finished only when it is right. We measure the bedstead, discuss firmness and climate, then hand-build the piece to your exact dimensions.

Every bespoke commission begins with a private consultation. We review your sleep position, body weight, temperature preferences, and the dimensions of your bedstead. From there, we select a spring count, fibre layers, and ticking before the build begins. You are invited to inspect the work at key stages, and the final piece is signed by its maker.

II.

Retufting & Restoration

4 – 6 weeks

The mattress you already love, returned to the bench. We open, replenish the natural fillings, retie the springs and re-cover in your chosen ticking — bringing another twenty years to a well-made piece.

Restoration is available for Ruthef mattresses and other high-quality hand-built pieces in sound structural condition. We inspect the spring unit, replace compressed fillings, refresh the hand-tufting, and rebuild the borders. Where the fabric is worn, we can re-cover in new ticking or preserve the original cloth if it holds sentimental value.

III.

Matching Bases & Toppers

6 – 8 weeks

Divan bases, box springs and hand-filled toppers built to match. Upholstered in the fabric of your choice, on the same bench, by the same hands.

A mattress performs best when paired with a base of equal quality. We build hand-nested sprung bases, upholstered divans, and slim platform tops, all sized to your exact mattress dimensions. Our toppers are filled with the same natural fibres used in our mattresses and finished with corner straps and hand-stitched edges.

IV.

Private Sleep Consultation

One afternoon

For clients seeking a quiet second opinion on firmness, climate, or a purchase. Held in Paris, or by private video anywhere in the world.

During a consultation, we assess your existing sleep setup, discuss any discomfort, and explain how materials and construction affect temperature and support. You will receive a written recommendation, including suggested dimensions, firmness, and fibre composition. There is no obligation to commission afterwards.

V.

Lifetime Care

Forever

Every Ruthef mattress returns to us, without appointment, for rotation, retufting and refilling. This is not a service — it is the promise.

We remain available for seasonal turning advice, refilling, and minor repairs. After the first ten years, we recommend a bench inspection to refresh the top layers and confirm the spring unit. All care work is carried out in the same atelier where the mattress was built, and every intervention is recorded in its life book.

The Commission Journey

From first conversation to final delivery.

We have designed the process to be calm, deliberate, and entirely transparent. Every step is led by one person, and every decision is confirmed with you before it is made permanent.

01

Inquiry

Contact us by email or phone. Tell us about your room, your bedstead, and how you sleep. There is no form to fill in — only a conversation.

02

Consultation

We meet in person or by video. Measurements are taken, firmness is discussed, and materials are selected against your climate and preferences.

03

Build

The mattress is built on a single bench, followed by the same pair of hands. You receive updates at key stages, and you may visit the atelier by appointment.

04

Delivery

Your mattress is hand-delivered, fully finished, and never compressed. We place it on the bedstead, check the fit, and leave you with a care book signed by the maker.

What to Expect

A service without urgency.

We do not keep stock. Every piece is commissioned, then made. Lead times reflect real handwork: hand-teasing, hand-tufting, side-stitching, and the final resting period before a mattress leaves the atelier.

During the build, we are available for questions at any time. We photograph the finished piece for our records, and we remain in contact after delivery to ensure the first nights are exactly right.

Guarantees

Work we stand behind.

Each bespoke mattress is covered for structural defects for ten years. Springs, hand-tufting, and side-stitching are guaranteed against workmanship flaws. Natural materials settle over time — this is normal, and we offer refresh services as part of Lifetime Care.

Delivery is handled by a specialist white-glove service within the country of commission. International deliveries are arranged case by case, with full insurance and handling by trained movers.

Investment

Pricing that reflects the work.

Every commission is priced according to size, materials, and labour. The collection pieces offer a defined starting point, while bespoke work is quoted after consultation. There are no hidden costs: the price we quote includes materials, handwork, delivery, and the first year of care.

Collection Pieces

Curated designs with set dimensions and firmness. Ideal for clients who want a Ruthef mattress without a bespoke process.

Bespoke Commissions

Fully tailored to your body, bedstead, and climate. Priced individually after consultation and measurement.

Care & Restoration

Quoted on inspection. Work ranges from seasonal turning advice to full retufting, re-covering, and spring-unit repair.

Questions

What clients often ask.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We arrange insured white-glove delivery worldwide. Transit times and import arrangements vary by country and are confirmed during consultation.

Can I visit the atelier before commissioning?

Absolutely. Consultations are held by appointment, Tuesday through Saturday. We recommend allowing one full afternoon.

What if the firmness is not right?

We discuss firmness extensively before building. If adjustment is needed after delivery, the first year includes one complimentary comfort revision.

How do I care for the mattress?

Every mattress leaves with a care book. In general, rotate seasonally, keep the room ventilated, and avoid placing it on a solid, unventilated base.

Do you restore mattresses from other makers?

We restore high-quality hand-built mattresses that are structurally sound. A preliminary inspection by photograph or in person determines whether the piece is suitable.

How long does a Ruthef mattress last?

With proper care and periodic refresh, a hand-built natural mattress can remain comfortable for several decades. Many of our earliest pieces are still in use.

Begin your commission.

Every mattress begins with a request. Tell us as much or as little as you wish — we take it from there.
